The day a girl gets her first period is possibly her most important rite of passage.
She will never go back to being a child in the same way again. Now fertile she needs to be respected amongst society as a growing and developing woman.
Celebration Day for Girls brings a sense of excitement, belonging, appreciation, and wonder to this stage of becoming being a woman and having a menstrual cycle. This one day workshop is designed for 10-12 years old girls with their mother or female carer. A carefully crafted day supports girls and their mothers at this special threshold in both their lives, and provides an affirming, grounded, and connected celebration of the journey to womanhood.
Too often periods aren’t talked about. This leads to embedded shame and embrassment for girls and their bodies. They become secretive and shy over topics that can actually empower them to know their body and how to support and love it. Over time this embedded shame, fear and embarrassment can manifest as menstrual dysfunction and disregulation, as well as girls feeling powerless around their body and its needs. This could look like painful periods, and more serious health conditions like endometriosis, polcystic ovarian syndrome and fibroids. It also impacts girls and their capacity to speak up for oneself through their growing years with body automony, and even as far as how they choose to birth their babies. What happens for a girl during these important years becomes a rite of passage from child to Maiden.
Teaching and empowering our girls about their body and how to support it, gives girls license and permission to follow their bodies rhythm, natural flow, intuition and to use their voice.
This event is a beautiful way of breaking through this entrenched taboo topic. In the west, we don’t know what to do to prepare a girl for this time. The conversation is typically reserved for a special day at school when a teacher clinically talks about reproduction and growing bodies. At Celebration for Girls we engage in lively discussion, fun creative activities, women’s stories, information and a gentle celebration of the magical threshold of puberty and menarche.
During the day girls are warmly invited into the time-honored, nurturing connection and support women have long shared with each other. Our focus is on creating a strong sense of mutual sharing and support around menstruation. Many participants report that their mother-daughter relationship is enriched and enlivened as the doors of communication in this key area of female experience and development are opened wide.

PLEASE NOTE: There are two days required for this event. The first event and second half the day event is for the mothers/female carers. Daughters attend the full day session only.
1) Mums Night. Held on Wednesday Evening at 6.30-8.45pm. Mothers or female carers attend this without their daughter.

2) The full Sunday after from 9.30am – 4.15pm
(9.30 am-1pm daughters attend. 1 pm – 4.15 pm mothers and female carers join for a joint session with both mums and daughters, in the afternoon.)

And so it is, each cell of our body has been created with this pulse, this rhythm of sound, this beat of the drum. This relationship with rhythm and the drum beginning in the womb.
The drum is a universal instrument, not owned by any culture. Played for thousands of years across all continents; by Celts in Europe, Native Americans in the USA, and all through Africa, South and Central America, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia. You have the ancestral memory of long ago playing the drum. This cross-cultural instrument and Shamanic tool is the call of the heartbeat, the wild self, and the song of Mother Earth.
It’s the sound of coming home.
And now, as we sit in 2024, it feels like thousands of years since we have been drum carriers. Indeed, it is a long time. But we are re-membering these ancient ways. We are hearing the call of the great Mother, the call of the drum. We are awakening to the Feminine and the heartbeat of Mother Earth. We are re-claiming the old ways, the ways we used to be, connected to the Earth, to our bodies, to each other, and to the pulse of the drum and Life.
We have indeed sat in circle and played our drums for longer then we haven’t – we just don’t remember. Our ancestors lived like this for thousands of years. We have this wisdom and knowledge in our bones.
And now it is time for us to unravel, and reweave our relationship to the Feminine, to ourselves, to ritual, to ceremony, and to the drum. It is time for us to sing, to dance and to be reminded that we are indeed a part of nature. Not a part from nature. Its time to remember our connection to the Moon, to our menstruating bodies, to each other, to the Earth – and to step forwards and make claim to something that was once stolen, shamed and hidden.
Its time to reclaim your Power, connect to other women and become a drum carrier again.
I am so looking forward to sitting in this sacred space with you and supporting this journey. You will be lovingly welcomed into a community of women as we live together for three days and two nights. We will journey and share stories, we will bare witness to each other as we are held in the sacred container of Circle as Shaman (the process of allowing the circle to draw the wisdom from us, learning and unraveling together).

Join us for a three day deep immersion exploring the Women’s Wheel of the Year and creating our own beautiful sacred drums.
You will:
-Go home with your own personally crafted 15-inch round hoop drum made with the power of Red Deer and the sacred Phoenix Tree.
-Develop a deep understanding of the Women’s Wheel of the Year and how everything in nature, and our lives, follows cyclically. Deepen awareness and connection to nature and ourselves, and how we fit into the wholeness of Mother Nature as rhythmic creatures. We will explore how we are so incredibly linked to the Moon, to the solstices and equinoxes, to our menstrual cycle, to the seasons, and to the growing cycle of Life. This knowledge is shown as we explore the map and cycles of birth, growth, full bloom, harvest, decay and death. We will explore how we can live in harmony with this map, further connecting us to our bodies and the shamanic cycle of our bleeding times. We are indeed magical beings!

Event details
DAY 1: Beginning on Friday at 10am, we will sink into sacred space on Permanangk and Ngarrindjeri Country for our residential workshop. Connecting over the weekend together both indoors and outdoors in this potent way will leave you feeling immersed in the sacred feminine, more connected to the mysteries of life and the community around you.
On day 1 we will explore the Women’s Wheel, including the connections between the moon, seasons, life stages of women and the menstrual cycle. See how the cycle of birth, growth, full bloom, harvest, decay and death are intrinsic to Life and all we create and birth. You will experience a shamanic journey and go home with a clear map on how to navigate these times and why. This is reclaiming the power of the feminine in the most tangible form.
DAY 2: Sitting in sacred circle together we share from our hearts, and begin to unpack our birth stories and birth imprints; of how we were born into this world, and how this pattern plays out in all our creative endeavors. You will choose your deer hide today and begin the process of cutting and soaking it. The evening promises to be secretly magical.
DAY 3: The final day will be the accumulation of a deep weekend of exploring your own birth, that of your children, and any creative projects you have experienced. You will spend the entire day on the land weaving and creating your drum. We will finish at 5.30pm.

Your Drum
Drums are lifelong companions who remind us to live from our hearts rather than our heads. Its’ life is possible through an Animal and Tree no longer with us, who are honored in our process of creation. We will be working with the Red Deer medicine to fully respect and honor this kind and gentle animal.
The sacred handmade hoops from the Phoenix Tree – renowned for strength and lightness, while embodying the energy of rebirth, new life, and royalty, are made specifically for this workshop.
The uses of this most special instrument are endless. Your completed drum can be used for whatever your heart yearns. Shamanic journeys, music-making, connecting to nature, re-membering ourselves, remembering the call of our heart, during ceremony, at sunset and dawn, to mark a birth, a death, or monthly menstrual cycle. Note* It is extremely rare to have the privilege of using Red Deer hide. These huge hides are hard to access. Some are so large, that you may have enough excess to make a second drum or rattle with remaining pieces later at home.
Food
Fully catered with Organic Vegan/ Gluten Free food provided, and for those that want it, sides of animal protein are available. Please let me know if you have any dietary requirements that are outside this range or are celiac.
Accommodation
-Bunk style in a dorm room. There are 6 separate dorm rooms, each with 5 beds, so there is room for women to spread out. BYO own bedding e.g., sleeping bag, pillow, pillowcase, or sheets and quilts OR
-Camping: BYO your own tent, swag or campervan. You will need to provide all you need/ mattress and sleeping bag etc. There is power available for campervans to connect to. More information is in the confirmation email.

Cancellation Policy
She Awakening has the right to cancel, reschedule, change the location, date and fee of the workshop without penalty or prior written notice in the event of reasons beyond our control. All attempts to notify participants will be made and refunds will be given if a new date is made and attendance is no longer possible for each participant if this happens. We realize that events occur beyond your reasonable control and there may be circumstances that arise in your life that make attendance no longer possible. In this instance: for cancellations made greater then 6 weeks prior to workshop: a refund minus $350 will be made. For cancellations made between 4-6 weeks: 50% will be refunded. For cancellations made within 4 weeks of workshop: no refund will be made (but attendance can be transferred to a friend or family member for attendance of the same dates instead).
